The Evak Hippo 50-150 (400V) is the first genuinely industrial pump in the Hippo range, in 400V three-phase for permanent commercial and industrial installations. 1.1 kW / 1.5 HP three-phase motor, 2″ discharge, full cast iron construction with vortex impeller and 50 mm free passage.

Genuine industrial step-up from the 1 HP 50-100 — 580 L/min max flow at 12.5 m max head. Motor cover switches from glass-reinforced nylon to full cast iron; insulation class steps up from B to Class F for continuous industrial duty. Three-phase operation draws just 9 A at full load with smoother start-up and no starting capacitor.

Full Description

The Evak Hippo 50-150 (400V) is the first genuinely industrial pump in the Hippo range in three-phase configuration — the point where the range moves from prosumer/light-commercial construction to full cast iron industrial specification. A 1.1 kW / 1.5 HP 2-pole three-phase motor drives a vortex impeller through a heat-treated stainless steel shaft, supported by NTN long-life ball bearings.

Compared with the 1 HP 50-100, this variant delivers 580 L/min at up to 12.5 m of head — 16% more flow and 11% more lift, but the meaningful upgrade is the construction. The motor cover switches from PA66+30GF glass-reinforced nylon to full EN-GJL-200 cast iron, insulation class steps up from Class B to Class F (better thermal margin for continuous-duty operation), and the pump weight almost doubles — from 15.4 kg to 24.2 kg. This is genuinely a different pump under the hood.

Three-phase 400V operation delivers smoother start-up, no starting capacitor, and lower running current per phase than single-phase equivalents — better for continuous-duty operation and reduces mains distribution loading. The motor housing is AISI 304 stainless steel. Twin EKK Eagle Burgmann mechanical seals (upper Ca/Ce, lower SiC/SiC) run in an oil chamber with an NBR lip seal. External overload protection required — supply with a suitable motor starter and level controller.

Construction

Full cast iron construction

EN-GJL-200 cast iron throughout — pump casing, impeller, oil chamber, bracket, seal housing, and motor cover. Upgrade from PA66+30GF nylon motor cover on the 0.5–1 HP variants.

Class F insulation

Upgraded from Class B on the 0.5–1 HP Hippo variants — better thermal margin for continuous-duty operation at 1.5 HP under sustained load.

50 mm vortex impeller

Recessed vortex design giving full 50 mm free passage — consistent with the whole Hippo range, handles typical sewage solids without clogging.

Stainless motor housing

AISI 304 stainless steel motor housing over the stator, with AISI 410 heat-treated stainless shaft. Nylon 6 handle.

Twin silicon carbide seal

EKK Eagle Burgmann double mechanical seal — upper Ca/Ce, lower SiC/SiC — running in oil chamber with NBR lip seal.

Three-phase efficiency

Next day delivery:
Next working day delivery is available for a £16.50 + VAT delivery charge.

What is a submersible pump?

A submersible pump is designed to operate fully submerged in the liquid it is moving. The motor is sealed inside the pump body and cooled by the surrounding water. Submersibles are used for drainage, sewage, septic tanks, deep wells and boreholes, and for raising water from sumps, cellars and floodwater. Many stocked at Anglian Pumping handle solids in suspension.

Can submersible pumps handle solids and sewage?

Yes – some submersibles are designed for clean water only, others handle solids up to 50 mm or full raw sewage. Anglian Pumping stocks ABS, BBC, Flygt and T-T Submersibles ranges that include vortex, single channel and grinder impellers for different solids handling requirements. Always match the pump to the maximum solid size and the type of effluent it will see.

When should I use a submersible pump instead of a surface pump?

Use a submersible when the water level is more than around 8 metres below the pump installation point – surface pumps cannot self-prime beyond that depth. Submersibles are also better when the liquid contains solids, when noise must be minimised, or when the pump needs to operate in confined spaces such as sumps and chambers where a surface pump would not fit.
