Grundfos Scala Home Booster Pumps
Grundfos Scala2 3-45 Model2 93013254 variable speed water booster
- Established 1975
- Trusted by thousands of customers
The Grundfos Scala2 3-45 Model2 is the UK’s go-to domestic booster pump — a fully integrated variable speed unit that holds constant pressure at every tap and shower, even with several running at once. Pump, motor, drive, sensors, tank, and non-return valve are built into one compact, near-silent unit that installs in three steps.
One of the few domestic boosters rated for indoor or outdoor use and horizontal or vertical mounting — ideal for awkward spaces. Self-priming to 8m from a tank, well, or borehole. Backed by a 2-year Grundfos warranty.
- Constant pressure, every outlet — intelligent variable speed adjusts instantly to demand; 70 l/min max flow, 45m head
- One of the quietest boosters made — water-cooled motor at 44 dB(A) typical, 3 dB(A) quieter than the original Scala2
- Fits anywhere — horizontal or vertical, indoor or outdoor; one of the few domestic pumps rated for outside use
- Fully integrated all-in-one — pump, motor, drive, sensors, tank, and non-return valves; 3-step install
- Self-priming to 8m — draws from a tank, well, or borehole below the pump
- Dry-run and auto-reset protection — stops on fault, retries automatically to protect the motor

More about this product
The Grundfos Scala2 3-45 Model2 is a fully integrated variable speed booster pump. All components — pump, motor, inverter drive, pressure and flow sensors, integrated tank, and non-return valves — are built into a single compact unit. Installation is a three-step process: connect the pipes, prime, and plug in.
The intelligent speed controller continuously adjusts pump speed to match household demand, maintaining constant pressure at every outlet even when multiple taps and showers run simultaneously. The water-cooled permanent magnet motor delivers 44 dB(A) typical noise — one of the quietest domestic booster pumps available. The Model2 is 3 dB(A) quieter than the original Scala2.
The Scala2 cannot connect directly to the mains — it must draw from a break tank, cold water storage cistern, or other below-pump water source. It is self-priming to 8 metres. Suitable for horizontal or vertical installation, indoors or outdoors. Backed by a 2-year Grundfos warranty.
Two of the most popular compact variable speed booster pumps at similar price points — compared side by side. Neither can connect directly to the mains.
Scala2 Model2 — the better choice when outdoor installation is needed, or when a break tank / borehole is already in place and installation orientation flexibility matters. No WiFi.
Esybox Mini 3 — higher flow (80 vs 70 l/min), higher head (55 vs 45m), higher max working pressure (5.5 vs ~4.5 bar), WiFi and voice control, longer 3-year warranty — and cheaper at £369 vs £422.48 + VAT. Indoor installation only.

What is a mains pressure boosting system?
A mains pressure boosting system increases the pressure and flow of water from the incoming mains supply into a property. It typically combines a pump and a storage or expansion tank, drawing water from the mains and delivering it to taps, showers and appliances at a stronger, more consistent pressure. They are used where the incoming mains is too weak to serve modern outlets reliably.
When do I need a mains booster pump?
You normally need a mains booster if static mains pressure is below 1.5 to 2 bar, if showers run weakly when other taps are open, or if combi boilers struggle to deliver hot water. Anglian Pumping recommends checking static pressure at the stop tap before specifying a system, then choosing a model rated for the number of bathrooms and outlets in the property.
What size mains booster do I need for my home?
Sizing depends on the number of bathrooms, the type of fittings and the static mains pressure. As a guide, a 1 to 2 bathroom property with combi boiler or single shower often needs 1.6 to 3 bar boost. A 2 to 3 bathroom property typically needs 3 to 4.5 bar with an integral break tank. Larger homes need a tank-and-pump system such as the DAB Esybox with Esytank or a Powertank set.
What is a water booster pump?
A water booster pump increases the pressure of an existing water supply to give stronger flow at taps, showers and appliances. It can be a small inline pump fitted to the incoming mains, or a larger pump and tank set that draws from a break tank to feed the whole house. Boosters do not create water – they raise the pressure of the water already coming in.
What is the difference between an inline booster and a tank-and-pump booster?
An inline booster connects straight onto the incoming mains and is limited to 12 litres per minute under UK water regulations – examples include the Salamander HomeBoost and WaterBoost WB-Compact. A tank-and-pump booster, such as the Grundfos Home Booster or DAB Esybox with Esytank, draws from a break tank and can deliver much higher flow rates for larger homes with multiple bathrooms.
What is a variable speed booster pump?
A variable speed booster uses an inverter to adjust pump speed in real time to match demand. It maintains constant pressure as outlets open and close, runs more quietly than a fixed-speed pump and typically saves up to 50 per cent of the energy a fixed-speed equivalent would use. The DAB Esybox, DAB Esybox Mini 3 and Grundfos Scala2 are common variable speed examples.
