Grundfos 4.5 BAR Home Booster 240V ME450200
- Established 1975
- Trusted by thousands of customers
The Grundfos Home Booster ME450200 is the current part number for the Grundfos 4.5 bar Home Booster (formerly MD450200): a complete, self-contained cold water boosting set for domestic properties with low mains pressure. A Grundfos CM 3-6 stainless steel pump delivers 4.5 bar nominal pressure at 30 l/min, controlled by the PM2 Pressure Manager. The set includes an integral 200-litre storage tank (180 L usable) with a Type AB air gap, an 8-litre pressure vessel, and all-WRAS-approved components. Designed and built in the UK.
At 1,000 mm high on a 600 × 600 mm base (66 kg dry) it fits a utility room or garage on a solid level base; not suitable for lofts. Suited to 1–2 bathroom homes with 4–5 occupants, taller properties or very low incoming mains. For a slow-filling mains, add the optional 180-litre slave tank. The ME300200 is the 3.0 bar version.
More about this product
Product overview
The Grundfos 4.5 Bar Home Booster ME450200 is a self-contained cold water boosting system for domestic properties with low or inadequate mains pressure. It connects directly to the mains supply via a Type AB air gap, providing compliant backflow protection, and fills an integrated 200-litre storage tank from which the pump draws. No separate break tank is required.
ME450200 is Grundfos’s current part number for this set; earlier units carried the code MD450200. The product is unchanged: the same CM 3-6 stainless steel pump, PM2 Pressure Manager, tank, pressure vessel and dimensions, so it is a direct like-for-like replacement for an existing MD450200 installation. The CM 3-6 has two stages more than the 3.0 bar set’s CM 3-4, giving 4.5 bar at the same 30 l/min, for taller buildings, long pipe runs, very low incoming mains, or appliances that need more than 3 bar.
The PM2 controller starts and stops the pump on demand, and an integrated 8-litre pressure vessel prevents short-cycling on small draw-offs. Designed and built in the UK, with a proven track record in the domestic market. Supplied as a complete packaged unit requiring only mains cold water supply, discharge pipe, overflow pipe and electrical connections. At 1,000 mm high × 600 mm wide × 600 mm deep and 66 kg dry, it is typically installed in a utility room or garage on a solid, level base. Not suitable for loft installation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ME450200 and MD450200?
Only the part number. Grundfos moved the Home Booster from MD to ME codes; the pump, controller, tank, vessel, dimensions and connections are the same. An ME450200 is a direct replacement for an MD450200.
Do I need 4.5 bar or 3.0 bar?
Most 1–2 bathroom homes are fine on 3.0 bar. Choose 4.5 bar for three-storey houses, long pipe runs, very low incoming mains, or where an appliance needs more than 3 bar at the outlet. Both deliver 30 l/min; the difference is pressure, not flow. Check that any unvented cylinder and its pressure reducing valve are rated for the higher supply pressure.
How big is it and where does it go?
1,000 mm high on a 600 × 600 mm base, 66 kg dry and 246 kg with the tank full. It needs a solid, flat, level floor in a utility room or garage, with room to reach the float valve and controller. It is not suitable for lofts.
Does it connect directly to the mains?
Yes. The mains supply connects directly to the unit. A Type AB air gap built into the tank inlet provides the backflow protection required under Water Byelaws regulations. No separate break tank is needed.
Is 200 litres of storage enough?
For a 1–2 bathroom property with a reasonable mains fill rate, 200 litres (180 L usable) is typically sufficient. For 3–4 occupants or slow-filling mains, the optional 180-litre slave tank brings total storage to 380 litres. For greater storage, the DAB Esybox with Esytank offers 480 litres.
What is the PM2 Pressure Manager?
Grundfos’s pressure controller. It starts the pump when a tap is opened and stops it when demand ceases, with LED indicators for pressure, pump status and faults, dry-run protection if the tank runs dry, a reset button, and an anti-seize function that exercises the pump if it has not run for an extended period.
How is it delivered and what warranty is included?
It ships on a pallet as a complete packaged unit. Please contact us for delivery timescales and current warranty details on the Grundfos Home Booster range.
The Grundfos Home Booster has been developed to provide a compact and cost-effective solution. It’s is self-contained and its neat size makes it ideal for a range of domestic installations where space is at a premium.
These self-contained cold water booster sets, has been specifically designed for domestic properties where the existing mains water supply is insufficient to meet the demand requirements of pressurised hot and cold water systems. The Home Booster is suitable for most domestic properties with one or two standard bathrooms with standard fittings, or en-suite, and cloakroom, plus other normal household appliances.
Designed and developed by Grundfos Pumps specifically to meet the demands of the UK market, these Home Booster units are built in the UK and they have proven themselves in the field for the past 10 years.
Another important plus is that installation is straight forward – just requiring connection of mains cold water supply, discharge pipe, overflow pipe and electrical connections. Sets are typically installed in a utility room or a garage. For larger properties, there are a range of alternatives that could be considered including the Grundfos Max-E Boost.
With the increasing demand for water to meet a range of demands, many households are looking to get a boost to their water supply demands and the Grundfos Home Booster can deliver it.

What is a mains pressure boosting system?
A mains pressure boosting system increases the pressure and flow of water from the incoming mains supply into a property. It typically combines a pump and a storage or expansion tank, drawing water from the mains and delivering it to taps, showers and appliances at a stronger, more consistent pressure. They are used where the incoming mains is too weak to serve modern outlets reliably.
When do I need a mains booster pump?
You normally need a mains booster if static mains pressure is below 1.5 to 2 bar, if showers run weakly when other taps are open, or if combi boilers struggle to deliver hot water. Anglian Pumping recommends checking static pressure at the stop tap before specifying a system, then choosing a model rated for the number of bathrooms and outlets in the property.
What size mains booster do I need for my home?
Sizing depends on the number of bathrooms, the type of fittings and the static mains pressure. As a guide, a 1 to 2 bathroom property with combi boiler or single shower often needs 1.6 to 3 bar boost. A 2 to 3 bathroom property typically needs 3 to 4.5 bar with an integral break tank. Larger homes need a tank-and-pump system such as the DAB Esybox with Esytank or a Powertank set.
What is a water booster pump?
A water booster pump increases the pressure of an existing water supply to give stronger flow at taps, showers and appliances. It can be a small inline pump fitted to the incoming mains, or a larger pump and tank set that draws from a break tank to feed the whole house. Boosters do not create water – they raise the pressure of the water already coming in.
What is the difference between an inline booster and a tank-and-pump booster?
An inline booster connects straight onto the incoming mains and is limited to 12 litres per minute under UK water regulations – examples include the Salamander HomeBoost and WaterBoost WB-Compact. A tank-and-pump booster, such as the Grundfos Home Booster or DAB Esybox with Esytank, draws from a break tank and can deliver much higher flow rates for larger homes with multiple bathrooms.
What is a variable speed booster pump?
A variable speed booster uses an inverter to adjust pump speed in real time to match demand. It maintains constant pressure as outlets open and close, runs more quietly than a fixed-speed pump and typically saves up to 50 per cent of the energy a fixed-speed equivalent would use. The DAB Esybox, DAB Esybox Mini 3 and Grundfos Scala2 are common variable speed examples.
