The Grundfos CMBE 5-62 is a compact, reliable, and energy-efficient pressure-boosting system designed for water supply in domestic, agricultural, and light commercial applications. It combines a Grundfos CM (centrifugal multistage) pump with an integrated variable speed drive (Grundfos’ intelligent motor technology). Here’s a detailed breakdown of the system:

Key Features:

  1. Model Details:
    • CMBE: Stands for “Compact Multistage Booster with Electronics.”
    • 5-62: Refers to the pump size and performance characteristics.
  2. Variable Speed Control:
    • The integrated variable speed drive allows the pump to adjust its speed automatically based on water demand, ensuring consistent water pressure regardless of variations in usage.
    • Reduces energy consumption compared to traditional constant-speed pumps.
  3. Flow Rate and Pressure:
    • Can handle medium to high flow rates, making it suitable for applications requiring significant water distribution.
    • Provides consistent pressure even in multi-story buildings or locations with fluctuating water supply conditions.
  4. Compact Design:
    • The unit is designed to be space-saving, allowing for easy installation in homes, farms, or small commercial buildings.
  5. Built-in Safety Features:
    • Dry-running protection: Prevents damage if the pump runs without water.
    • Overload protection: Protects the motor from electrical issues.

Applications:

  • Domestic Use: Boosting water pressure in residential homes for showers, faucets, and irrigation.
  • Agricultural Use: Supporting water supply for small-scale farming or irrigation systems.
  • Commercial Use: Providing water supply to small offices, schools, or businesses.

Advantages:

  • Energy efficiency due to variable speed technology.
  • Low noise operation.
  • Easy to install and maintain.
  • Durable construction with high-quality materials like stainless steel components.

What is a water booster pump?

A water booster pump increases the pressure of an existing water supply to give stronger flow at taps, showers and appliances. It can be a small inline pump fitted to the incoming mains, or a larger pump and tank set that draws from a break tank to feed the whole house. Boosters do not create water – they raise the pressure of the water already coming in.

What is the difference between an inline booster and a tank-and-pump booster?

An inline booster connects straight onto the incoming mains and is limited to 12 litres per minute under UK water regulations – examples include the Salamander HomeBoost and WaterBoost WB-Compact. A tank-and-pump booster, such as the Grundfos Home Booster or DAB Esybox with Esytank, draws from a break tank and can deliver much higher flow rates for larger homes with multiple bathrooms.

What is a variable speed booster pump?

A variable speed booster uses an inverter to adjust pump speed in real time to match demand. It maintains constant pressure as outlets open and close, runs more quietly than a fixed-speed pump and typically saves up to 50 per cent of the energy a fixed-speed equivalent would use. The DAB Esybox, DAB Esybox Mini 3 and Grundfos Scala2 are common variable speed examples.
