- Established 1975
- Trusted by thousands of customers
The Grundfos Sololift2 WC-3 Macerator 240V is a macerating pump specifically designed for toilet wastewater (also known as black water) and is part of the Sololift2 range by Grundfos. It’s an advanced and reliable pump system used primarily in residential and light commercial applications where traditional gravity-based drainage systems are not viable.
Key Features:
- Purpose:
- The Sololift2 WC-3 is designed to pump toilet waste (black water) and other wastewater from areas where it is not possible to use gravity drainage. This includes locations such as basements, attics, or remote areas.
- It is designed to handle wastewater from a toilet, and also from sinks, showers, and bidets.
- Maceration Function:
- The macerator inside the pump chops and breaks down solid waste into smaller particles, allowing for easier and more efficient pumping. This ensures the pump can handle toilet paper, waste, and other soft solids without clogging or blockages.
- Capacity:
- The Sololift2 WC-3 can pump wastewater to higher levels or longer distances, allowing you to install a toilet and other water fixtures in locations that would otherwise be impractical.
- The system is capable of handling greywater and blackwater efficiently.
- Compact Design:
- Like other models in the Sololift2 range, it has a compact design for easy installation in small or tight spaces.
- Typically installed behind a wall or under a floor, making it ideal for locations where a traditional sewage line is not accessible.
- Durability:
- Built with corrosion-resistant materials and designed for long-term, reliable performance.
- It is suitable for use in both residential and light commercial settings.
- Electrical Requirements:
- Operates on 240V, which is common for residential and light commercial power supplies in many countries.
- Safety Features:
- The pump includes built-in overload protection, thermal protection, and a clog prevention system, ensuring the unit operates safely and efficiently.
- Quiet Operation:
- The unit operates with relatively low noise levels, making it suitable for indoor use without causing significant disruption.
Typical Applications:
- Basement bathrooms or areas below the main drainage level where a gravity-fed system would not work.
- Attic installations or spaces where gravity drainage is not an option.
- Additional toilets or bathrooms in areas with limited plumbing infrastructure.
- Small commercial establishments where toilet facilities are needed but a traditional sewage line is not available.
The Sololift2 WC-3 is a versatile and reliable solution for situations where traditional plumbing is difficult or impossible to install. It’s an effective solution for those who need to install a toilet in areas without the benefit of gravity-based drainage. As with all pump systems, proper installation and regular maintenance are important for ensuring optimal performance.

What is a submersible pump?
A submersible pump is designed to operate fully submerged in the liquid it is moving. The motor is sealed inside the pump body and cooled by the surrounding water. Submersibles are used for drainage, sewage, septic tanks, deep wells and boreholes, and for raising water from sumps, cellars and floodwater. Many stocked at Anglian Pumping handle solids in suspension.
Can submersible pumps handle solids and sewage?
Yes – some submersibles are designed for clean water only, others handle solids up to 50 mm or full raw sewage. Anglian Pumping stocks ABS, BBC, Flygt and T-T Submersibles ranges that include vortex, single channel and grinder impellers for different solids handling requirements. Always match the pump to the maximum solid size and the type of effluent it will see.
When should I use a submersible pump instead of a surface pump?
Use a submersible when the water level is more than around 8 metres below the pump installation point – surface pumps cannot self-prime beyond that depth. Submersibles are also better when the liquid contains solids, when noise must be minimised, or when the pump needs to operate in confined spaces such as sumps and chambers where a surface pump would not fit.
