Calpeda GXV25 submersible drainage pumps are suitable for use in a range of applications. They come fitted with an 110v, 240v or 415v motor and can be used with or without a floatswitch. The floatswitch is quick and easy to adjust when necessary and allows the pump to be automatically stopped and started. They have a suction strainer containing a double row of holes, which helps to prevent clogging. The pumps can be used for situations involving:
– clean or slightly dirty water, which contains solids up to 25mm in size
– they are especially suited to the flow of liquids containing filamentous particles
The GXV pumps are manufactured from chrome-nickel stainless steel and use a single free-flow (vortex) impeller. They have a vertical delivery port, which enables them to be installed in small pits without the need for an elbow on the pump. These pumps can be used with a frequency converter. The pumped water passes between the motor jacket and the external jacket to help cool the motor. The double shaft seal with oil chamber keeps the motor separate from the water and prevents accidental use when it is dry.
The GXV25 range of submersible drainage pumps have a maximum flow rate of 220 litres per minute and can accommodate heads up to 12.7m. They are suitable for use with liquid temperatures up to 50C. The pumps can be immersed up to a maximum depth of 5m. When they're used with a floatswitch, the minimum water level should be 130mm. For manually operated pumps the minimum level is 30mm. Calpeda are a leading Italian manufacturer of electrical pumps. They provide products with high levels of performance and reliability.

What is a submersible pump?
A submersible pump is designed to operate fully submerged in the liquid it is moving. The motor is sealed inside the pump body and cooled by the surrounding water. Submersibles are used for drainage, sewage, septic tanks, deep wells and boreholes, and for raising water from sumps, cellars and floodwater. Many stocked at Anglian Pumping handle solids in suspension.
Can submersible pumps handle solids and sewage?
Yes – some submersibles are designed for clean water only, others handle solids up to 50 mm or full raw sewage. Anglian Pumping stocks ABS, BBC, Flygt and T-T Submersibles ranges that include vortex, single channel and grinder impellers for different solids handling requirements. Always match the pump to the maximum solid size and the type of effluent it will see.
When should I use a submersible pump instead of a surface pump?
Use a submersible when the water level is more than around 8 metres below the pump installation point – surface pumps cannot self-prime beyond that depth. Submersibles are also better when the liquid contains solids, when noise must be minimised, or when the pump needs to operate in confined spaces such as sumps and chambers where a surface pump would not fit.
