Triton LR06
Triton LR06 Diesel Oil Float Switch 30m LR06-L30M
- Established 1975
- Trusted by thousands of customers
The Triton LR06-L30M is a robust paddle float switch built for diesel oil and oily water: fuel tanks, generator day tanks, oily water separators and bilges. A sealed polypropylene float is moulded to 30 m of orange PUR polyurethane cable, which stands up to hydrocarbons where PVC and CPE do not.
Its changeover (SPDT) contact switches a pump directly up to 15 A resistive at 240 V, or signals a high or low-level alarm. Made in the UK by Triton Controls.
More about this product
Triton LR06 diesel oil float switch, 30 m
The Triton LR06 (LR06-L30M) is a robust paddle float switch engineered for diesel oil and oily water. PVC and CPE cables break down in hydrocarbons, so the LR06 pairs a polypropylene float with 30 m of polyurethane (PUR) cable, giving far better chemical resistance than the LR03 and reliable long-term service.
An orange band on the float and matching orange cable make it easy to tell apart from water float switches on site. The changeover (SPDT) contact starts or stops a pump, or raises a high or low-level alarm.

Wiring
| Leads used | Contact closes when | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Brown + Black | Float rises (tilts up past about 45°) | Emptying: pump starts on high level |
| Brown + Blue | Float falls (tilts down past about 45°) | Filling: pump or valve starts on low level; low-level / dry-run alarm |
Brown is the common lead. Insulate whichever lead you don’t use. Single-phase pumps up to 10 A inductive can be switched directly. Larger or three-phase motors should be switched through a contactor or control panel.

Installation tips
- Fit the LR03-W counterweight on the cable at the point you want the float to pivot, or tether the cable securely.
- Allow at least 330 mm of free movement so the float can tilt fully. Switching points are approximate.
- In an enclosed vessel, support the cable; in an open or turbulent tank, clip it to the wall so the float cannot drift.
- Where turbulence causes rapid on/off switching, use a maintaining (latching) circuit to protect the microswitch and the pump starter.
FAQs
Why not use an LR03 in diesel?
The LR03’s PVC or CPE cable degrades in hydrocarbons. The LR06’s polyurethane cable and polypropylene float are made for long-term diesel exposure.
Do I need the counterweight?
Yes, or tether the cable. The LR03-W has a polypropylene body that is suitable for oils.
Will it switch my pump directly?
Single-phase pumps up to 10 A inductive (about 1.3 hp), yes. Use a contactor or control panel for larger or three-phase pumps.
Is the LR06 ATEX certified?
No. Where a hazardous-area rating is required, the installation needs an ATEX-certified switch and assessment.
How do I tell it apart from a water float?
The LR06 has an orange band on the float and an orange cable.
