Triton LR02
Triton LR02 Rubber Float Switch with Inbuilt Weight 20m LR02-L20M
- Established 1975
- Trusted by thousands of customers
The Triton LR02-L20M is Triton Controls’ best-selling float switch for sewage and wastewater. A tough Hypalon rubber float houses a sealed microswitch and steel roller ball, moulded to 20 m of 3-core CPE cable, with a built-in stabilising weight, so no separate counterweight is needed.
Its changeover (SPDT) contact switches a pump directly up to 15 A resistive at 250 V, and can be wired to fill or empty. Made in the UK by Triton Controls.
More about this product
Triton LR02 rubber float switch, 20 m
The Triton LR02 (LR02-L20M) has been Triton Controls’ best-selling float switch for over 20 years, and is the standard choice for sewage and wastewater level control. A sealed microswitch and steel roller ball sit inside a tough Hypalon (CSP) synthetic rubber float, moulded to 20 m of 3-core CPE cable. A rubber-coated stabilising weight is fixed to the cable about 120 mm from the float, so no separate counterweight is needed.
Its smooth, rounded shape resists build-up of solids and grease. As the level rises or falls, the changeover (SPDT) contact starts or stops a pump, or triggers an alarm. Wire one side to empty a sump or wet well, or the other side to fill a tank.

Wiring
| Leads used | Contact closes when | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Brown + Black | Float rises (tilts up past about 45°) | Emptying: pump starts on high level |
| Brown + Blue | Float falls (tilts down past about 45°) | Filling: pump or valve starts on low level; low-level / dry-run alarm |
Brown is the common lead. Insulate whichever lead you don’t use. Single-phase pumps up to 10 A inductive can be switched directly. Larger or three-phase motors should be switched through a contactor or control panel.

Installation tips
- Allow at least 330 mm of free movement so the float can tilt fully. Switching points are approximate.
- In an enclosed vessel, support the cable; in an open or turbulent tank, clip it to the wall so the float cannot drift.
- Where turbulence causes rapid on/off switching, use a maintaining (latching) circuit to protect the microswitch and the pump starter.
FAQs
Does the LR02 need a counterweight?
No. The stabilising weight is built into the cable about 120 mm from the float, so it is ready to hang straight into the sump.
Can one switch fill and empty a tank?
Yes. Use brown and black to empty (closes on rising level) or brown and blue to fill (closes on falling level).
Will it switch my pump directly?
Single-phase pumps up to 10 A inductive (about 1.3 hp) at 250 V, yes. Use a contactor or control panel for larger or three-phase pumps.
Can I use it in diesel or oil?
No. The LR02 is rated poor against diesel and petrol. Use the Triton LR06, which has a polyurethane cable made for oily liquids.
Is there a version for hazardous areas?
Yes. The Triton LR02-IS is ATEX certified for zones 1 and 2, wired through an intrinsically safe barrier.
