The Ebara Matrix 3-9T/1.5M is a compact horizontal multistage centrifugal pump with nine stages, built in AISI 304 stainless steel. The pump is close-coupled to a 1.5 kW single-phase IE2 motor with built-in capacitor and thermal overload, and the standard carbon / ceramic / EPDM seal is WRAS approved for drinking water.

It covers 1.2 to 4.8 m³/h on Ebara’s selection chart, with around 102 m of head at shut-off. It suits pressure boosting, water supply and transfer, irrigation, washdown and light industrial duties, and connects through a G1 suction and a G1 discharge.

Ebara Matrix 3-9T/1.5M Overview

The Matrix 3-9T/1.5M is the nine-stage model in Ebara’s Matrix 3 range of horizontal multistage pumps, with a 230 V single-phase motor. The casing, impellers, intermediate stages, casing cover and wetted shaft are all AISI 304 stainless steel, and the motor has a built-in run capacitor and thermal overload, so it can be wired straight to a protected 230 V supply.

It delivers from 1.2 m³/h up to 4.8 m³/h, with around 102 m of head at shut-off and 36 m at 4.8 m³/h. It is quiet and compact, which suits domestic and commercial pressure boosting, water supply and transfer, irrigation, rainwater reuse, washdown and light industrial use. As a bare pump it needs a pressure switch, flow controller or inverter to run it as a booster.

Installation Notes

Supply: 230 V single phase, 9.0 A full load and 65.2 A locked rotor. The capacitor and thermal overload are built in. Wire through a suitable isolator and protective device; electrical installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Priming and dry running: Before first start, remove the priming plug on the pump casing near the discharge, fill the pump with water until it overflows, refit the plug and run at full flow for a few minutes. The pump must never run dry, and Ebara advises against running below 10% of best-efficiency flow, so avoid running for long against a closed valve.

Pressure: Shut-off is around 10.0 bar and the maximum working pressure is 10 bar. Inlet pressure plus pump pressure must not exceed 10 bar. With this pump that leaves effectively no allowance for inlet pressure, so feed it from a break tank.

Location: Install indoors or under cover with the shaft horizontal, at no more than 40 °C ambient, and protect it from frost. Support the pipework so no load is carried by the pump connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the code Matrix 3-9T/1.5M mean?

Matrix 3 = the Matrix range sized for around 3 m³/h at best efficiency; 9 = number of impellers; T = threaded pipe connections; 1.5 = motor size in kW; M = single-phase motor.

Is it approved for drinking water?

Yes. The standard version with the carbon / ceramic / EPDM seal is WRAS and DM174/2004 (ICIM) approved for drinking water, for liquids up to 85 °C.

Will it switch itself on and off?

No. This is a bare pump, so it needs a pressure switch, flow controller or inverter to start and stop it on demand. For a ready-made variable speed booster with the same Matrix 3-9T pump end, see the 1GPE MATRIX 3-9T/1.5 ESPM, which runs from 230 V single phase.

Is there a three-phase version?

Yes. The Ebara Matrix 3-9T/1.5 (part 2470390004I) has the same pump end with a 1.5 kW IE3 230/400 V three-phase motor.

What if I need less head?

For less head, the eight-stage Matrix 3-8T/1.3M gives around 90.5 m at shut-off on a 1.3 kW motor. All Matrix 3 models cover up to 4.8 m³/h.

Can it pump hot water?

The standard seal is rated for −15 to +85 °C. Ebara makes -TE and special-seal versions for up to 110 °C, but these are different part numbers, so ask us before ordering for hot-water duties.

Is there an insulation jacket?

Yes. Ebara supplies a body insulation casing for this pump, part 341445035, for chilled or heated water duties. Ask us to add it to your order.
