Flooded cellars or even downstairs rooms have in recent times become all too common occurrences. Depending on the design or location of your house a cellar or downstairs rooms may be susceptible to regular flooding when ground water rises or heavy flooding due to rivers breaking their banks or excessive rainfall.
Dealing with the nightmare usually involves use of pumps of one form or another. The type of pump is decided by the location, availability of power sources, the volume of water and speed required.
Smaller submersible pumps can be put directly into the water and pump out through a hose to a suitable drainage point or storage container.
Larger pumps, often diesel or petrol powered are set up outside the flooded area and use an inlet (placed in floodwater) and outlet pipe (to suitable drainage or storage container).
In an area where large scale flooding has occurred, access to electricity may be impossible and an external power source either from electric generator or petrol or diesel power may be required.
